Freedom Ascension (GD05) Market Update - October 2026 | TCJournal

Three months after launch, Freedom Ascension (GD05) is still the most important booster set in the Gundam Card Game, and the numbers back it up. A sealed booster box now trades around $185 on TCGplay…

Bandai dropped Freedom Ascension on July 24, 2026 as the game's official first-anniversary booster, priced at $4.99 for a 12-card pack and 24 packs to a box. The pitch was pure nostalgia fuel: Mobile Fighter G Gundam made its debut, Strike Freedom and Nu Gundam finally arrived, and the set packed a record five LR++ cards, one in each color. The market responded the way you'd expect when Wing Zero shows up with its angel wings out. Within ten days, tracker data pegged the box near $243, the case near $2,643, loose packs near $7.85, and the Wing Zero LR++ around $3,582, the most expensive pack-pulled chase card the game had ever produced.

Sealed Product: The Froth Is Gone, the Floor Is Holding

The box has shed about 22% since early August, but it has flattened out rather than collapsed. TCGplayer's own listing data showed the box market price around $185 with low volatility over a 30-day window, and retailers are pricing right on top of that at $189.95. The quiet bargain is the box itself: at $190 you're paying about $7.91 per pack, cheaper than the $8.54 a single loose pack commands.

Here's where every sealed product stands on TCGplayer as of October 25. The booster box trades around $184.82, down from about $243 in early August but still well above its $119.76 retail value (24 packs at $4.99). A full booster box case goes for $2,513.15, a modest dip from roughly $2,643 at launch. Loose booster packs have actually crept up, from about $7.85 to $8.54, while sleeved booster packs slid from around $12.50 to $9.94. For players who want a softer entry, the Deck Build Box (SC01) bundles 125 reprints with four Freedom Ascension packs and launched at $54.99.

Rarity Tiers: Where the Money Actually Lives

Freedom Ascension carries 138 base card types plus 10 more, with 65 alternate-art versions layered on top, and the value ladder is brutally steep. Base commons and uncommons trade for dimes, base Legend Rares mostly sit under $5, and the new Link Rare parallels (the C+, U+ and R+ cards marked "Link Rare") rarely clear $2. The real money starts at the alt-art R+ and LR+ cards, jumps again at the eight Special reprints and eight Special EX Resource cards, and goes vertical at LR++.

Starting at the bottom, the 50 commons trade for 6 to 13 cents and the 36 uncommons for 6 to 16 cents, with Airframe Seizure the lone standout at about $1.15. The 32 rares mostly land between 14 cents and $1.55, though Darkness Finger has jumped to around $8.59. The 12 base Legend Rares run from 26 cents to $7.60, and the Link Rare parallels top out around $1.71. Things get interesting at the alt-art R+ cards, which range from $2.23 to $42.95, and the LR+ alt arts, from $5.44 to roughly $86. The eight Special reprints sit between about $63 and $175, the eight Special EX Resource cards between $128 and $768, and the five LR++ cards, one per color, run from $1,113 all the way to $3,910. Two tokens round out the set.

The Top 5: Five LR++ Cards, $10,434 of Cardboard

The headline act is unchanged since launch week, and that stability is the story. Wing Zero is the only one of the five that has climbed meaningfully, Strike Freedom, Nu Gundam and Sazabi are essentially flat, and Master Gundam has given back about 9%. Together the five are worth roughly $10,434 at TCGplayer market, and all five still rank among the 15 most valuable printings anywhere in the Gundam Card Game.

Leading the pack, Wing Gundam Zero (EW) LR++ (GD05-067) carries a TCGplayer market price of $3,910.18, up 9.2% since early August, and TCGIndex has it even higher at $4,300. Strike Freedom Gundam LR++ (GD05-002) follows at $2,605.72, down a hair at 0.6%, with TCGIndex at $2,357. Nu Gundam LR++ (GD05-017) holds third at $1,532.38, essentially unchanged. Sazabi LR++ (GD05-049) is flat at $1,272.77, and Master Gundam LR++ (GD05-033) rounds out the top five at $1,112.98 after slipping 9.4%.

The Top 10: The EX Resource Takeover

Here's the twist casual openers miss: spots six through ten all belong to Special EX Resource cards. EXR-009 alone is a $768 card, more than four sealed boxes, and these five together add another $2,056 of value. EX Resource EXR-009 leads this group at $767.76, followed by EXR-007 at $558.17. EXR-010 sits at $303.42, EXR-004 at $225.87 and EXR-006 at $201.28, with TCGIndex landing within about 10% on each.

The Top 20: Depth Is the Investment Case

Ranks 11 through 20 are where Freedom Ascension separates itself from a one-card lottery ticket. Every slot through #19 clears $100, driven by the SP pilot reprints of fan favorites like Suletta, Amuro, Char and Kira, so a box with no LR++ can still return real money. The one figure to watch is the Wing Zero LR+ at #20: TCGplayer data sit near $86, and Strike Freedom LR+ at about $73 is right behind it.

EX Resource EXR-005 opens the second ten at $193.36, followed by the Suletta Mercury C+ SP at about $174 and EXR-008 at $151.42. The Amuro Ray C+ SP ($148.65) and Marida Cruz R+ SP ($144.00) come next, then the Char Aznable C+ SP at about $129 and EXR-011 at $128.28. Kira Yamato's C+ SP (about $124) and Heero Yuy's C+ SP ($109.08) take 18th and 19th, and the Wing Gundam Zero (EW) LR+ closes the list at roughly $59. TCGIndex lands within about $15 of each of these, with the Wing Zero LR+ the lone outlier at $62.57.

Still the Best Value Play in Gundam

Put it all together and Freedom Ascension is the best value play in the Gundam Card Game right now. You're buying the set that owns five of the game's 15 most valuable printings, with chase prices that held steady for three months, at a box price that's already 22% below its peak and sitting on a stable floor. The tracked singles add up to roughly $14,600, the hit list runs 20 deep past $60, and with Stardust Trails (GD06) now the shiny new release, the anniversary set is sliding out of the spotlight, which is usually when sealed supply starts to thin. Hype paid $243 a box in August; patience gets the same five LR++ shots for about $190 today, and that is the kind of math collectors remember a year later. As always, this is market commentary rather than financial advice, so buy what you'd be happy to own.
