Ascended Heroes rolled out January 30 with no booster box at all, and its ETBs didn't land until February. Launch week, the ETB's market price sat around $95, but quickly started going up as massive buys came in. The lesson here is critical for anyone building a portfolio , not all sets are created equal.
Delta Reign Prereleases start October 24 and run through November 1, Pokémon TCG Live gets the set November 5, and Delta Reign hits retail shelves on November 6. That timeline gives preorder buyers under three weeks before real pull data replaces sheer speculation. Historically, prices usually climb into launch week, and then reality abruptly arrives with the first massive wave of openings.
Delta Reign is the English version of Japan's Storm Emeralda , which landed in July, and it brings 135-plus cards to the table. We are getting four new Mega Evolution ex (Rayquaza, Golurk, Malamar, and Golisopod), six other Pokémon ex, 14 Illustration Rares, 17 Ultra Rares, and six Special Illustration Rares. The headline mechanic is the Legendary Stadium —three two-card split Stadiums that pay homage to the HeartGold & SoulSilver LEGEND cards, and packs that hit one include both halves. The ETB promo is a gorgeous Kyogre Illustration Rare by Nurikabe. A few IRs, including Eevee, come over from Japan's Starter Set decks rather than Storm Emeralda itself.
The Eevee Illustration Rare is the quiet crowd-pleaser, and Eevee collectors will absorb copies no matter what the market does. The Raikou ex SIR is one of only six SIRs, and it's already being named among the set's top chases off the Japanese release. The Growlithe IR is our sleeper, the kind of charming low-tier card that ends up costing more than you'd expect in the long term. Our one real gripe is Kyogre and Groudon. Nurikabe, who painted the beloved Paradox Rift Groudon IR, gives us another gorgeous pair here, but both landed as Illustration Rares instead of SIRs, and that feels like a big miss. Worse, the Kyogre isn't even in packs, since it's the ETB promo, so the Hoenn pair is split by design.
The Mega Rayquaza Ultra Rare won't be hard to pull, but its background color, design, and overall aesthetic are fantastic, completely in the same league as the Mega Charizard X Ultra Rare from Phantasmal Flames . The Mega Rayquaza SIR is the crown jewel and the obvious chase, with the gold Hyper Rare likely settling at number two. English collectors have heavily favored SIRs lately, though, and Ascended Heroes' Mega Gengar SIR still towers over its gold Mega Charizard Y. As with recent sets, Pokémon pairs its megastar with less popular Megas like Golurk and Golisopod, whose Japanese SARs sit around $30, so the hits aren't stacked on one name.
The retail ETB carries nine packs, so a $130 preorder works out to about $14.50 per pack . If you just want to rip, the $250 booster box preorder at roughly $7 per pack makes the ETBs look aggressively expensive.
Storm Emeralda gives us the early read, and it loudly dictates that the set's value is concentrated almost entirely in two Rayquaza cards, which effectively makes any single ETB a lottery ticket. Supply also cuts against the $130 price: unlike Ascended Heroes , Delta Reign launches with full and half booster boxes, bundles, and blisters on day one. Then there's the 30th Celebration , which launched September 16 and rolls out in five US retail waves through early December, with the Day and Night Ultra Premium Collections dropping November 6, the exact same day as Delta Reign . That intense collector frenzy is undeniably spilling into Delta Reign preorders.
We're skipping the retail ETB at $130, but keeping our eyes open on the Booster Box. Though Ascended Heroes did go up after release, it had much stronger Pokémon chases—x2 SIR Pikachus, Mega Gengar, Mega Dragonite, Mewtwo, 2 hyper rares, and more. The set value was absolutely incomparable. Though Delta Reign does have heavy hitters, it is not that; others have also compared it to Evolving Skies , and though it shares a similar top chase, this is not that either. If you want one to open, aim for a lower floor or wait for the post-launch dip, and if you want to rip, the booster box is the far better buy. None of that is a knock on the set. Delta Reign is incredible, and caught between 30th Celebration waves, it's definitely one to watch. When comparing to other Mega Evolution booster boxes, this one at $260 even in pre-release isn't bad. Although this will have more waves and reprints in the years to come, its performance is more about how the macro Pokémon market performs. The only way we see this dropping lower than $200 is if it gets lost in the mix of the 30th celebrations opportunity costs.
